Selena

She is a singer, designer and a music pioneer. She was the first Mexican American singer that was modern and traditional. She brought both cultures together and brought Tejano music into mainstream culture. As is often the case of a brilliant and genial star passes away way too soon, her untimely demise has thrown her profile into a quagmire. A lot of mourners reacted to the potential that was not fully realized. Her fans have worked even harder in an effort to not forget what she's accomplished. The tragic death of Selena by a shooter triggered the outpouring of emotions within Latino communities similar with the reaction to Elvis Presley's death and John Lennon's. Selena was a wildly well-known Latino artist throughout North America. Her music transcended the boundaries of culture and inspired younger and more mature adults. Selena was a sexy glamorous performer on stage and was often referred to by the Latina Madonna. In her off-stage life, Selena was also an excellent role model since she was active in anti-drug and AIDS campaigning.
